NO and NOT
ในการสร้างรูปประโยคเป็นแบบปฏิเสธ (negative) โดยปกติเรามักจะใช้คำว่า not
ตัวอย่าง
The students went on strike, but not the teachers.
พวกนักเรียนพากันเดินขบวน ยกเว้นครู
I can see you tomorrow, but not on Friday.
ผมพบกับคุณพรุ่งนี้ได้ ยกเว้นวันศุกร์
“Are you happy?” – “Not really.”
คุณมีความสุขไหม – ไม่มีความสุขเลย
ใช้ no + noun ในความหมาย not a หรือ not any
ตัวอย่าง
No teachers went on strike.
ไม่มีครูคนใดที่เดินขบวนประท้วง
No cigarette is sold.
ไม่มีบุหรี่ขายเลย
I’ve got no Thursdays free this term.
ภาคเรียนนี้ผมไม่ว่างวันพฤหัสบดี
หมายเหตุ นอกจากหลักการใช้ดังกล่าวมาแล้ว    เรายังใช้ no กับ signposts (ป้ายประกาศ) ได้แก่

NO SMOKING                        =    ห้ามสูบบุหรี่
NO PARKING                         =    ห้ามจอดรถ
NO RUBBISH DUMPING  =    ห้ามเทขยะ

NO MORE, NOT ANY MORE, NO LONGER, and NOT ANY LONGER
หลักการใช้
1. ใช้ no more เมื่อพูดถึงปริมาณ (quantity) หรือระดับ (degree)
ตัวอย่าง
There’s no more bread.
ไม่มีขนมปังอีกแล้ว
He’s no more a genius than I am.
เขาไม่มีความเป็นอัจฉริยะมากกว่าฉัน
2. ในภาษาอังกฤษยุคใหม่ (modem English) เราไม่ใช้ no more กับ เวลา (time) แต่จะใช้ not… any more, no longer, หรือ not…any longer ในความหมาย once but not now (ครั้งหนึ่งแต่ไม่ใช่ตอนนี้)

เดี๋ยวนี้แอนโทนี่ไม่ได้อาศัยอยู่ที่นี่แล้ว
I no longer support the Conservative Party.
