หลักการใช้ ALRIGHT, ALL RIGHT,ALTERNATE AND ALTERNATIVE

alright สะกด a-l-r-i-g-h-t เป็นคำที่ผิด ไม่ควรจะนำมาใช้ แต่ปัจจุบันนี้ เจ้าของภาษาที่ไม่ค่อยพิถีพิถันนักก็ถือว่าถูก แต่ผู้รู้ไม่ควรจะนำมาใช้
all right (ออล-ไรท์) adv., adj. มีหลายความหมายอาทิ
1. หมายถึง safe; unharmed แปลว่า ปลอดภัย, ไม่ประสบอันตรายใดๆ
ตัวอย่าง
Is the driver all right after the accident?
คนขับปลอดภัยหรือเปล่าหลังจากที่ประสบอุบัติเหตุ
2. หมายถึง satisfactory ; acceptable แปลว่า เป็นที่น่าฬอใจ, เป็นที่ยอนรับ
ตัวอย่าง
His work is all right.
งานของเขาเป็นที่น่าพอใจ
3. หมายถึง certainly ; beyond doubt แปลว่า แน่นอน, ไม่ต้องสงสัยเลย
ตัวอย่าง
He’s ill all right : he has a very serious disease.
เขาป่วยจริงๆ เขาป่วยเป็นโรคที่ร้ายแรงมาก
ALTERNATE and ALTERNATIVE
alternate (ออลเทอะเนท) เมื่อทำทน้าที่ verb หมายถึง to follow by turns แปลว่า สลับกัน
ตัวอย่าง
The scenery alternates between rocky hills and sandy plains.

ภูมิประเทศมีเขาเป็นหินและที่ราบเป็นทรายสลับกันไป
The flood and ebb tides alternate with each other.
น้ำขึ้นและลงสลับกันไป
และ alternate เมื่อทำหน้าที่ noun หมายถึง a substitute or second choice แปลว่า ตัวแทน, ตัวเลือกถัดไป

เขาได้รับการคัดเลือกให้เป็นตัวแทนในคณะผู้แทน

alternative (ออลเทอะเนทีฟวฺ) n. หมายถึง a statement or offer of two things, both equally preferable, but only one which may be accepted แปลว่า ตัวเลือก, ทางเลือก
ตัวอย่าง
You can choose between two alternatives, namely, the firing party or life imprisonment.
แกมีทางเลือกอยู่ 2 ทาง คือการถูกยิงเป้าหรือถูกจำคุกตลอดชีวิต
Since there was no alternative, I had to accept the position.
